Looks like the crack is in the front arm of the sink but not sure because the pic is too close.
Rod failure cracks are always parallel to the steel rod beneath.
But a crack like that can allow water to saturate into the rod and cause rod failure just as it would from caulking failure or leaking faucets.
It will be rod failure in the future if not repaired or if the rod is not removed.
