It does look like it is being deteriorated by the salt water.  This will also leave a film on the surface and the sun will dry it faster.   There is not a lot you can do.  Consolidants may help but they are tricky to apply and there is no guarantee.

OK here’s my pictures... The first pic of the travertine floor you can see starting from the bottom where it still has its color under the awning and starts to turn white as its out exposed to the sun. Although I know exterior stone does not need sealing, they wanted it sealed. The homeowner thinks that the white haze is from the oxidation of the sealer. I was careful not to say anything.
The following pictures are areas where I scraped it with a razor blade then adjacent to it and over the scraped area added some water and scrubbed it with a Grout brush then wiped it dry. It felt much smoother afterwards
and the color came back a little.

I have a heavy duty purple Nylo-grit brush that’ll take all that stuff up pretty fast but I don’t think there’s a way to prevent this, is their?

hi Dr. Fred, Here’s a picture of most of the area as you can see its totally exposed to the sun.
The first one is before and the second one is after we did the work.
Let me know if the pictures don’t come out well.
Sometimes I have problems attaching pictures to a email chain.
But I’ll send you this current pics as soon as I get out there later on during the week
Thank you talk to you soon

I will agree w Fred. Is the pool a salt pool or chemical pool water? Was there anything put on the deck after it was done last year??
I did a job 4 months ago n the area under the sun(Florida sun) was all pitted n looked just like what you have now.
It looks likes the whole thing needs to be cut . IMO to bring back all to match n I would tell client, deck needs to be cleaned n rinsed on a regular basis to keep from reoccurring.

No but I will this week when I go look at it.
It may just need a once over with the dip pad.
I’ll send pics after I see it but what do you think Dr.Fred?
How have you dealt with this?
We did a lot of other stuff for them too but they’re only thinking about the price tag they paid. $35,000
