Looks like it could be Italian Rose marble. I would try a hone and polish because it looks like a possible surface residue. . If it is below surface I would use a 35% hydrogen peroxide over 3 thick plain white paper towels. If you have never used peroxide ask for procedures for safety concerns.

I thought it was a side cut travertine until I noticed it doesn't polish the same as travertine and it has red/orange veins. Any thoughts would be helpful.
