Its that damn limestone that is super porous and very hard to get a uniform polish. I think it is called white oak(from MSI) but there are variations. 
Seems to refinish better with limestone densifier and white pad crystalizer.

Looks like it could be Italian Rose marble. I would try a hone and polish because it looks like a possible surface residue. . If it is below surface I would use a 35% hydrogen peroxide over 3 thick plain white paper towels. If you have never used peroxide ask for procedures for safety concerns.
