Hi Fellas,
Thanks for all of the helpful feedback.
One more question….. Some of you have commented on being careful not to turn the grout white when powder polishing. How can I be sure to avoid this on black grout if I decide to use MB 12? Or 5X?
Thanks.
Jason

One of the hardest things I had was to be sure and dry the area so I could see the scratches from the grit I was using before moving to the next grit. Seeing 100 grit scratches at 800 grit stinks had to redo. Walls make you tired and makes you hurry. Take breaks good luck Phil

I thought this thread started out with "I need to grind and bring to polish black marble"?
If that's the case there are many factors like how much lippage is there reason being all the scratch patterns created from 50 metals 50 resin 120 resin 200 resin 400 resin 800 resin maybe even 1800 resin although mb-12 or 5x could most likely polish after 800 depending on the machine and diamonds used......But your most challenging thing will be getting all your scratch patterns out if you truly are grinding lippage as stated because if you don't get them ALL out believe me you will see them when you get to polishing.Hope that helps good luck.......

Obviously, I did think I would grind the walls. I am interested in knowing what resin most would start honing at. Maybe some would say just polish.

Why are you grinding the tiles if it is a wall !

Is the job a wall job? I ask this because you wondered how to keep it wet. Let me know.

Dear Partners,
I have been a scc partner now for a few months and I would like to call upon you for some suggestions. Though relatively new in the stone restoration business, at 33 yrs, I have been maintaining floors since I was 15. Recently I have had great success with grinding and honing marble, travertine, and concrete. Brian Yager gave me great tips and I'm sure some of you can offer great advice.
I am now looking at a 350 sq ft black marble job that will need to be grinded and brought to a polish. I have not worked on black marble and I am wondering if there is anything unique I could face? I have never used my variable speed grinder on walls as of yet. Can someone give me tips on how this is done, esp as far as how do you keep it wet? I have been using MB powder polish with good success. Could I expect the same here? Is a $6/ft bid unreasonable?
Thanks in advance for your suggestions!
Jason
