I use a Fein MultiMaster with sandpaper or a hand sanding block. The Fien MultiMaster also works well for removing grout and its SAFE compared to a circular blade. I buy all my supplies and accessories from Costal Tools http://www.coastaltool.com/a/fein/mm_sanding.htm. Call them to make sure they have what you want before ordering, they sell out of Fein supplies allot.

I have never needed to go into corners more than a 3m diamond   hand pad or by hand with a polyester pad and honing powder

Are there any special tools that help with details in corners?  For instance working on a counter top and having to hone the corners.  With the makita, it gets the majority of the space but then we do the corners by hand.  I thought at some point someone mentioned a tool for getting those details.
