Alex,

I recommend everyone to carry the StoneCare Central Care Product with them on their truck, at least the most popular items. Keep these items in a closed container that way they will not be dirty and nasty before you sell them your customer.  Residential customers you can 95% of the time sell them the products they need. This is the golden opportunity to sell, your customer just spent money to have their stone restored, cleaned and or polished. They want it to stay in that condition for as long as possible, this the time to SELL the care products. The Website is good, but close the deal while you are there, the re- orders can go to the website. Too many times the customer will put off going to the website to order the product and you need to get the care products into the customers hands as soon as possible.

Remember this, every residential sale is worth an additional $50 to $100 in sales by simply  recommending and selling the care products while you at the customer home. Sometimes you can even sell the care products while you are making your sales call, but in most cases the sales are made after the work is completed.

This process takes a commitment from you to sell. This makes great add on sales and future sale as the customer re- orders..

Have fun and SELL !!!

That's great.  Many of my customers do not like placing orders online or just don't navigate online well and I'd like to be able to give them an easy ordering option.

You know, I don't think it would hurt to have a brochure from Stonecare Central with consumer products, product numbers and pricing with ordering info.

To all

I been reading the comments regarding the documents for efflorescence and everyone of you have good points. My caution is that first I prefer to explain to the customer and educate them of their problems, I find the more I can talk to the customer the more comfortable they are with me and my company.  Securing the customers trust in you as the professional is the most important part of selling your services. If the customer is comfortable with you closing the sale should be easy. After you have spent the time educating the customer, prior to leaving the appointment , that ‘s the time to leave the print material behind with your customer. Not only do you need to leave the print material for their particular problem you need to leave behind a brochure describing all your services. Also during you sale call it very important to ask the question “What are you using to clean your floors , walls etc ?”  this open the door to sell care products. Be prepared many time you can sell the care products before you even get the job. If this occurs make sure the customer understands the product will not correct their problem, only your professional services will solve the problem.

This is why I recommend everyone have several basic brochures for general services and  products along with brief hand out for specific problem such as efflorescence, etching , staining  etc.

He must have been Italian!

There are generally three methods of which can assist in preventing efflorescence:

  • Selection of ingredients – Using ingredients which have minimum quantities of salts (eg. ensuring clean sand is used) can reduce the potential for deposits. Blended cement contains smaller amounts of calcium than Portland cement. The use of tools and mixers should also be well cleaned and free from rust.
  • Control of Moisture - Moisture penetration into the masonry and mortar should be controlled or minimised.  Masonry should be covered with polythene sheeting. Mortar joints that are exposed to weathering should be tooled to produce a smooth weather resistant surface. It is also important to minimise premature drying when curing by avoiding exposure to wind and excessive temperature immediately after casting.
  • Surface Treatment - The use of water-repellent material such as silicone will restrict the entry of water and may minimise the formation of efflorescence. However, water-repellent material may prevent moisture escaping and cause problems such as crystallization of excessive salt beneath the surface which will trigger spalling or flaking within porous and soft masonry.

We recently had the chance to have a man from another country work with us on a project.  He said in their country they use diesel fuel to clean and treat efflorescence and it supposedly prevents it from coming back.  He said it eliminates the minerals somehow that create the efflorescence.

This has got to be an old wive's tale, or something scary to do as I would be afraid to use it.

Hi All

One document on efflorescence attached.

Here is where you guys can help. We have a ton of documents that we are editing / preparing for the Partner Center. As you make requests, we'll focus on those first. Also, give us feedback what should be on the documents. If they are for you guys, of course it should not only include a definition of a problem, for example, it should include tips and remedies. If it's for your customers, an explanation / definition should be sufficient. We were thinking the ones for customers should have a place where it can be personalized with your own Company Info (i.e. "presented by Marble Maestro... logo, website, phone...)

Everyone's input is greatly appreciated.

Good question, I would also use it!

Tired of trying to tell people it will come back like cancer unless they remove the source and stop trying to seal it

Hi group

Does anybody have a good document I can use as a hand out explaining efflorescence to my customers?  I figure it would be helpful to ask you before I try to create one myself.

:)
Thanks all!
