Roger,
It depends upon the condition of the floor. If the floor is
after construction, I would do a quick scrub over the floor just to make sure I
have a clean surface to start with. You never know what may have been on the floors.
But in general the honing powders will clean as you hone. Recommend
if you don’t clean the floors first you use approximately 3 to 3 ounces of neutral
cleaner to 5 gallon of water. This will give you a good chemical that will lift
and suspend the dirt off the floor.

Subject: [sccpartners] Honing vs Cleaning and Seal
All, On a new installation, such as limestone. If one
hones the floor with loose abrasives, to give it a more consistent finish. Is
there any reason to scrub the floor 1st with a neutral cleaner to
remove surface residue? Wouldn’t honing powders also clean the surface? Thanks, RK |
