If you are only concerned about restoring the granite surface and the stone is attached correctly to the counter the thickness does  not matter you will never grind through it in your life time unless you grind it everyday.

 

The product you are referring to granite that is 3/8 inch thick and made especially for going over existing countertops. We grind 3/8 inch granite tiles on floors and I have seem 3/8 inch tiles on countertops , no difference with a 3/8  inch slab

I hope this doesn't sound silly but here it goes...

Is the industry standard thickness of granite counters 3cm?

I know there is this stone product that companies place on top of the existing counters which I would assume is a lot thinner than a real slab of granite.  However, in the life of a restoration pro, does it truly matter how thick the stone is in order to work on  the counter?
