There are probably 40 granites that the fabricator is able to buy for less than $10.00/SF which leaves $20/SF for fabrication and installation. In my market I would be taking $5-$10 a SF out of my pocket and giving it to the customer if I were to charge $30/SF installed

Also...There is a fabricator/installer offering about 40 different granites for $30/sq ft including fabrication, installation and the stainless steel sink. (Countertops) I was wondering why so cheap and thinking perhaps it was due to low quality stone...or some black market.
I know for instance that some travertine has more pores in it than others and I was told that this type of travertine is not good quality. I can't remember for the life of me who told me this, but it stuck in my head.

there is no such thing as poor quality stone..this is the first thing I go over in the class in some detail. remember the stone is not poor quality, it is a rock and is made by nature.
