Ray,

A couple of things for the future,

1.       To tell the difference between real stone and cultured marble , touch the surface, if it’s cool to the touch it’s real stone. if you touch it and it warm or is not cool to the touch is probably not real.

2.       If the counter top and the sink I s all one in most cases it not real.

To get a shine back on the cultured marble you can do the following.

1.       If there are some scratches use a 3000 grit rubbing compound that they use on cars this can be purchased from automotive stores or automotive paint suppliers.

2.       Use the rubbing compound in the same manner as if you were rubbing out a spot on your car.

3.       The next step is to get a good car paste wax and apply and buff off.

Your now done!!!

CAUTION DO NOT GET OVER AGGRESSIVE WHEN USING THE RUBBING COMPOPUND, WHAT YOU ARE ACTUALLY DOING IS RUBBING THE SCRATCHES OUT A  GEL COAT FINISH AND IF IT A CHEAP TOP THE GEL COAT WILL BE THIN.

Hope this helps

Subject: [sccpartners] cultured green marble

Thank you everyone for providing feedback and advice on how to handle green marble.

After applying the advice I received, we have determined that even though the homeowner insisted it was real marble, the counters do not react like genuine marble and we have determined it is cultured marble (looks just like serpentine).  Can anyone offer advice on how to get a shine on serpentine looking cultured marble.

Thank you again for your help and feedback.
