Paul,
I’m surprised you did not call me on this one , you are
one of Stone And Tile Pro Partners that has a Premium Level giving you Phone Technical
support.
First question , have you ever ground granite before, other than
countertops? If not you may want to take my granite class. Floors are
different then doing countertops.
Do you have any pictures? If I can see the pictures I can better
walk you through the process.
After you polished the floors improved, so this tells me they
probably need to be honed. Don’t make the mistake that most contractor
do.
The stone probably only needs to be honed from 800, 1500 then
3000 , then polish. You won’t need to go any lower than the 800. I would
recommend you test an area starting at a 1500 grit granite diamond.
Be sure to use granite diamonds, I use the granite diamonds from
StoneCare Central the DI-CP series
Think about scratching granite, it very hard to put a 120 or 220
scratch in granite without dragging something across it. What you have are wear
patterns from traffic.
Now let’s talk about a topical coating , Shame on you
asking for a topical coating, you know this would only be a temporary fix and
would probably cause you more problem down the road. Stay away from topical
coating on stone, there are some penetrating color enhancers from Tenax and
other that could be used , but in this case I think you will achieve the finish
the customer is looking for with 1 or 2 diamond hones.
When are you signing up for the granite Class

Subject: [sccpartners] black absolute
A general contractor I have worked with in the past asked me to
look at a black absolute teller line (those huge counters in the bank the
tellers stand behind). The stone looks dull, abraded, in some spots and
fine in others (6 month old installation). I cant tell if the stone was
doctored or what. The are evaluating their options,(I am helping them evaluate
...). I tried crystalizing with dark polishing powder which helped somewhat but
did not solve the problem. There are still areas where there is dullness
etc. Obviously a full restoration is preferred but they might not go for
the price. Is there any topical that anyone knows of that can "even
out" or mask these inconsistent spots?? The bank is pissed and the
contractor wants to deal with this quickly and move on. How did I get caught in
the middle ??
