I have never used anything but 5X powder when polishing black, brown, white, beige or any other color stone, if the 5 X is too hot you are probably using too much powder. Over the last 20 years I have done more black floors, walls and then I want to remember and never had a problem with 5 X. If you recall during training I mentioned that if you worked a black floor too much in one time period it would not polish the way you wanted it to.

I have found that if a black floor will not polish properly the same day I have honed it, the stone is tired and need to set, sometimes only a few hours other times it takes over night. It the stone.

 

I have had call from seasoned technicians that have worked on numerous black floors and run across one that just will not polish. My response is let the stone rest, overnight if possible and you will find the next day the stone will pop one great shine and have great color.

 

In your case I would agree with Tim and crystallize the floor. In the future if anyone has a problem polishing a black floor allow the floor to set for a period of time , several hours or overnight if possible and you will find the next day the floor will polish great.

Hi folks,
black marble is trying my patience these days.  i am working on a large master bath floor ( only about 2 yrs new with primarily some etching--not many scratches) and have honed it with 220, 400, 800 diamonds and finished with 800 honing powder to take care of the picture framong.  i did all of the hones by the book and timed all of my sections.  i began to polish with 5x, but i did not like the shine i got after 2 sections.  i switched to 52-b and it seemed better than the 5x, but when i finished, the floor was uneven---some tiles looked good and others looked unpolished.  i went back today and repolished the whole floor with 5x and the floor is evenly done, but it looks a little cloudy on some tiles.   i have done other black floors with great results, but this one is very large and shows imperfections.  photos do not really show what i described so i did not include them.
is there any final step i can perform to show more shine?  would color enhancing sealer add a consistant sheen to the floor?  what about a poly sealer versus a water-based sealer?
