Agree with Bill on this one there is one other thing I have seen with tape on stone is the tape actually pull out some of the micro crystals in the stone and you may never be able to remove the damage. Fred Houston and I had one of those jobs  years ago and today the floor in at a hone finished instead of a polished finish.

you shold never tape directly to limestone.  Yes the tape did probably remove some of the stone. grinding may remove most of this damage.

the harded part in that the glue from the tape goes into the pores of the stone.  the glue will act  like a sealer but it will also grab dirt.  you may grind the stone and it will look good but if the glue is not remove these areas will turn dark from dirt and mop water over time so i suggest you scrub with accetone to best diminish the glue and pray.  It is very difficult to fully remove.  Tell your contractors to not tape directly to porous materials.  to tape paper to paper then to baseboards if necessary.

Hey Steve.  Seen this. You are right. The tape pulls out some of the stone and it looks like an etch, needs grinding.

Installer covered limestone with tyvek and  taped it to the stone. the tape left marks on the stone. so far no solvents or stripers have had any effect. the strange thing is some of the tape marks are dark and some are light. When wet the tape marks act like sealer and do not soak dark but the surrounding stone does, some areas look etched (I think the tape pulled some grain off the stone) and others are shinier than the stone finish. What's going on here?
