Barkeeper's Friend is definately the cure here.  It has saved me in a few different situations.  Usually with acid cleaner overspray.  I buy it at my neighborhood grocery store in the cleaning products section;  usually next to comet and ajax.

Thinking I might want some of the right type of acid to help it work and neutralize/remove any oxidization.

Try tin oxide or "bonami" they're nonacidic.

We used bar keepers friend first and then a basic stainless steel polish wipes. That worked great for us one time we had that problem.
