Hello everyone;

I was thinking that in the midst of all the radon scare buzz you may want to consider adding a service: Radon Testing. The kit is inexpensive -- about $25 from what I understand.

We can also include on the Solution Center at www.stoneandtilepros.com a mention that our stone Pros offer a radon testing service and of course then direct them to Find a PRO.

We all know it's the solid surface / engineered stone manufacturers that are behind this scare tactic to steer people away from granite and towards their products, but it does have consumers concerned, and there are some granites, according to all the reports, that do emit higher levels of radon. Most of the granites emit the tiniest bit of radon, but some, according to Stanley Liebert, quality assurance director at CMT Laboratories in Clifton Park, N.Y.  are more potentially troublesome than others: "We're seeing higher results in reds, pinks, purples. However, you've got to test them all."

The amount of radon in the air is measured in "picoCuries per liter of air," or "pCi/L," and the EPA says 4 pCi/L is the level of radon exposure that requires someone to take action. The agency also says levels lower than that "still pose a risk" and "in many cases, may be reduced."

According to The New York Times, 4 picocuries is "about the same risk for cancer as smoking a half a pack of cigarettes per day."

StonePro Solutions can write a white paper and create a downloadable pdf for any that are interested in making it available on your site.

Because the topic is of consumer interest, I would also encourage you to write an FAQ entry addressing the topic. In your faq, you could pose the question and answer and include (if you want) that a service you now offer is that you can drop by and do radon test for X number of dollars. If you have saved the contact info of all your past customers, it would be good to send a note to each of them.

Another thought... if you do offer this service, let's collect the data. Submit any results to me at admin@stoneprosolutions.com.

I think the collective data would make a great resource for each of you to use.

Feedback? Thoughts? Input?
