For the smoke and soot we used Grout Devil. You can get that at Jon Don in Roselle. It is good and inexpensive alkaline cleaner.
We cleaned many fireplaces with our truck mount but there will be a lot of overspray with this one. Depending on surroundings it may be a hand job only.
