Baird,
The only one thing that comes to my mind is Goof Off but since I don't really know what is in it you would have to test it first.
Are you sure is a residue not an etch?

Hi,
We have been called in to assist in removing some dark staining or residue left over from stenciling on a Granite Exterior wall. The Stenciling specialists stenciled and then engraved some gold lettering onto "Jetmist" granite.  The stencil was applied with Anchor Continental #125 Hi-tack stencil adhesive/filler which, according to MSDS sheets, contain Toluene and Heptane.  The filler remover they used is a citrus remover (monocylic terpene). They also tried scouring with steel wool and scotch-brite pads.  the temperature was between 50-60.  They were able to remove the stuff from a similar area on the other side of the building.  Was wondering what folks find might work best in a situation like this.  I have a number of products from Cathedral stone such as Mason RE latex 20 poutice cleaner that I thought might do the trick.  They also have some gel cleaners that will stay in place longer than most liquids.  It has been below freezing for the most part around here, so probably best to wait for some warmer weather.
Thanks so much.  See the picture below
