Baird,

I cannot  tell you how the two compare, I can only tell you the solvent based sealer form StoneCare Central is the same sealer I have used for over 10years with NO problems and I can always count on it giving the protection I need,.  Regarding water based sealer  I personally do not like the result they give. With regards to water based color enhancing sealers most of the water based sealer seem to be more of a coating than an penetrating sealer.

Any time you are comparing the cost of a solvent based sealer to a water based sealer the water based sealer will normally prove out to be cheaper.

I look at sealer as I do cars you can buy a cheap car and it will get you from point A to Point B but may not be the best transportation and will probably not last as if I had purchased a fine quality car. It also gets me from point A to point B but I arrive in style and I can depend on it getting me where I need to go.

As I have mentioned before I not overly concerned about the cost of the products as I am the performance of the products and if I can have a 1 stop shop it worth it to me not to spend my placing orders  with several  dieffernt companies. I would spend that time networking,  making sales calls or trying to improve to technicians productivity. Labor costs have more  impact on your profitability than material cost ever will .

Subject: [sccpartners] Stone Sealers-product merits vs. costs

Hi,

Was wondering if anyone wants to chime in on the relative merits of sealants vs. costs.  I have been using Aldon's SBS sealer as my tried and true impregnating color-enhancing sealer for slate floors and the price is $41.00 per gallon including shipping (shipping free). I see that the color enhancing solvent based sealer from Stone care central is $66.39 plus shipping.

On the non- color enhancing side, the water based impregnating sealer for stone care central is $31.00 and the same day water based non-color enhancing sealer from Aldon is $44.00.  the solvent based color enhancing variety from stone care central (which i have tried and like) is $98.00 and the comparable Aldon fine stone sealer at $92.00/gallon including shipping.  It appears that the non-color enhancing solvent based stuff is pretty expensive but the water based stuff is pretty cheap.  So, I guess my questions are 1. Is a solvent based non-color enhancing sealant worth twice the cost as water based? and 2. How do the stone care central products compare to Aldon's (or any others for that matter)?

Thanks,

Baird
