Jason, I get a lot of efflorescence on floor tile  around the exterior walls of homes and exterior surfaces caused by moisture from water sprinklers and drip systems.  One product that has worked well for me is Aqua Mix Eff-Ex http://www.aquamix.com/products/pg_detail.asp?pdid=44126&pgid=9833 . The company claims that the product will remove and inhibit efflorescence, but not permanently according to their tech support. I’ve used it on exterior (sandstone, Saltillo, masonry surfaces) and interior ( sandstone, Saltillo, terra cotta, brick, and masonry surfaces). I’ve used it with both breathable water based penetrating sealers and non-breathable solvent based topical sealers. I started using it two years ago and none of the efflorescence has returned and I don’t see any sign of deterioration of the surfaces. I live in a dry climate , so I’m sure that contributes to the success of the product. I do know from tests that the product will dull polished surfaces. In any case Fred is right the only way to eliminate the efflorescence is eliminate the source of moisture.

Efflorescence can be difficult to eliminate due to the fact that it is being caused by moisture. The only way to solve the problem is to eliminate the moisture source. Once this is done than it can be removed. I have an excellent article on this that will be posted in the resource section today

I am looking for a suggestion for a chemical to remove efflorescence on a terrazzo floor. I am hoping not to grind. What type of acid cleaner have any of you used? Mb-2?

Thanks!
