There appears to be natural iron in the slate and the stone is getting wet and the bleeding onto the other stone. as you can see the rust color in the slate is iron deposit and these will continue to bleed onto the other tiles.
The problem will continue to occur.

Here is a picture of Slate that was installed outside. There appears to be a lot of iron in it. If it can be cleaned up is it going to be an ongoing problem for the homeowner? I believe it could be. Is there anything that can be done? Right now he is thinking of taking it out.
