I disagree, if you are using the 5X from Stonecare Central it is
a milled powder and would not scratch the stone. If you are using another
suppliers 5 X that might be true.

The shellac in the 5X is causing the scratches. Try polishing onyx with
DiaGlo.

JAMES,
I RECOMMEND HONING USING A 5 INCH
DIAMOND , THEN SWITSHING TO A 7 INCH PAD TO POLISH. IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE
SOMETHING IN YOUR DIAMONDS IF YOU ARE ONLY HAVING RANDOM PROBLEMS.

Subject: [sccpartners] Onyx tips and advice
Partners,
Did
my first Onyx counter top today and had nothing but issues so I have to go back
and redo this. My first mistake was using a set of 7 in. pads which of
questionable quality. I am going to order a set of 4 or 5 in. quality
diamonds before I go back. I kept ending up with scratches in several areas. I
polished using 5x and most of it polished well but had random spots that got a
bit burnt. Fortunately I have done Limestone floors, marble counter tops and
Terra Cotta tiles for the same client with good results so they are very
understanding in this case. Any advice or info on Onyx characteristics would be
appreciated.
Thank
you
James
