I would be concerned with why the stone is warped...grinding may not fix the problem.

Basalt is a lot like granite and won't respond to marbe polishing powders. Some will have calcium and can go light when exposed to acid, but still will not polish out. So make sure your grinding is perfect. Don't use metals unless you have to flatten.
