I have used acetone and a pad to remove color enhancer. It won't change the finish but you might have to reseal afterward with an impregnating sealer.
Honing powder.... grit will depend on the finish i would do a 220 or 400 mb's powder is awesome.I have just found doing the stripper,cleaner the masking just isn't worth it when you are going to have to use honing powder when done anyway.
