It does look like it has a urethane coating. You can put more urethane on it or you can try some clear fingernail polish.

I worked on a chip in a table  top today. It turns out that the high gloss is a coating. When working the razor blade a piece flaked off and revealed a flat black stone. Using 5X did nothing to improve the finish or polish out the razor blade marks. . Of course I was using it with a wet cloth wrapped around my finger. Let me know if you don’t agree with my assessment.  Assuming I am correct, what can I apply to the area to give it a high gloss finish? See attached picture.
