Paul,First, you are Paul Bunis who is a great guy! Your are in the business of restoring natural stone in addition to that you are a business owner who employs and provides others the opportunity to learn and develop the craftsmanship. Invite your mother out on a job and let her make her own decision about what it is you do. More importantly it's about who you are as opposed to what you do! I hope this helps.Kevin HudsonN-Motion Stone and TileSent from my iPhonePaul,

Subject: [sccpartners] So--What do you do ??
Well,
I've been a stone restoration contractor for about 5 years now. I think I'm getting pretty good at it, or at least my business is growing. That's not the problem. The question today, is what do you tell people when they ask, "what do you do for a living?"
It seems like when I say "I restore stone." they say ".....what ???" or "huh ???" or they say "so you're a mason, right ?"
Then I say "no" and begin to tell them that "I restore stone". It seems that nobody knows or understands what that means...I mean, when I explain it to my customers, they pay me so I guess they get it. But, this afternoon I heard my mother telling her friend that "my son cleans granite". Now anytime I hear someone ask if I can clean their stone I get pissed off.
What do you tell people ???
Am I the only one with this identity crisis ???
