New Kit for Testing Granite
Stonecare Central in association with Stone Forensics has developed a new test kit for testing granite for such problems as 'Doctored Stone.'
Boston MA. "Dyed or what is commonly called 'doctored stone' is becoming widespread problem across the world. Evidence of doctored stone
include mysterious light blotchy spots, discoloration and rings, etc. that appear shortly after installation. We are being inundated with calls from
very frustrated consumers," reports Fred Hueston, Chief Technical Director of Stone Forensics (www.stoneforensics.com) and
stoneandtilepros.com. "Until now, proving that a stone has been dyed has required expensive laboratory testing. Stone Forensics has developed a
consumer friendly home test kit that will determine if a stone has been treated with color darkening chemicals."
The Stone Forensics Granite Test Kit contains three chemical reagents that will test for most of the common dyes that are used. It comes with
detailed instructions as well as options a consumer may want to take to rectify their problem.
The kit also shows the consumer how to test for other issues, such as testing a stone's porosity to determine if it should be sealed / re-sealed
and if a granite might have calcium binders that could result in etching if coming in contact with acids.
"This kit delivers a needed solution for consumers, whether they want to make the best choice when selecting granite for their kitchen
countertops, or for the homeowner that has invested thousands of dollars into their new countertops only to be faced with a blotchy mess and no
answers or direction. We expect stone restoration contractors will want to keep a few test kits on hand as well," says Chad Schmidt of Stonecare
Central.
The test kit is only $69.95 and is available exclusively at www.stonecarecentral.com.
