Partners,

I should have given you a more thorough answer.

As you are aware dyed or doctored stone is becoming an increasing problem. In addition granites are now being resined which will also have the same effect as using dyes. In the past I would simply recommend a little acetone and a rag. While this works on some dyes, there are some newer synthetic dyes which acetone will not react with. Acetone also won't affect resins. This is the reason I created a test kit for this (Dr. Freds GraniteTest Kit.)

This kit contains three essential reagents that can determine if the stone is dyed or if it is resined. It will also detect some the calcium binders now found in certain granites. As you know calcium is susceptible to acid etching and these granites that etch contain these calcium binders. I would recommend that you each carry one of these kits in your trucks since it will save you alot of headaches in repairing and refinishing many of the doctored stones that are now rampant.

As Partners one of your alliance benefits is a direct wholesale account with GoDrFred.com.

Is there a quick or easy way to tell if an Absolute Granite or Indian Granite has been dyed?

Thanks,
