I would first try scrubbing it with a good alkaline cleaner and see how clean it comes. If there are stains than I would go with the Hydrogen peroxide poultice and than a light hone.

I have been asked to service a limestone fire place hearth. Please see attached picture. I was thinking about apply a hydrogen peroxide poultice. Then honing the surface. Appreciate any suggestions.
