We have come across some fabricators who are using muriactic acid to hone marble counter tops.
So far the ones I have seen didnt look all that uniform.
What do you all think about that-thoughts and opinions?
While I think that honing with abrasives can leave a better more uniform(possibly) finish than a surface attacked and left open by a strong acid.
If the fabricator is a knowledgeable and understands and knows the stone well he can probably produce finishes that will attract some consumers.
I wonder if these finishes are even less prone to etching then the low matte finishes(80/180g) we create for some clients.
My opinion is that in the shop under the right conditions using the right dilutions on the right stone(and they got good results) which can be maintained - why not?
However I wouldnt want to have to go into some high end residence and refinish that surface using muriactic acid.
They would have to settle for a mechanically honed surface.
