i went out on craigs list and bought an 8000 watt generator either that or we have the electrician wire into the box. Like I said most of our jobs are hotels being restored, which is alot different from polishing a house..we are on construction sites. I forgot about your Klindex machines, thats quite a tool , much more than a regular floor buffer...

We use ours(20 inch ) on terrazzo and concrete-we don't do much concrete-but the floating heads on the lavina work well on terrazzo and concrete. Lately we have had alot of terrazzo in locations with limited electric so we have been running swing machines which work just fine if you set up your machines to follow the contour of the floor(absorbing pads between the diamonds and the drivers).
We pretty much use or samich/klindex swing machines machines for stonework.
The swing machines we use are 2.5 and 4 hp models so we have the option of using dry polishing compounds and techniques.

i use mine on larger marble jobs as well..just polished about 1000 feet of kasota limestone with it and it worked great. I have one of the older 4 hp lavina that uses 220 v. i do very little concrete polishing, maybe one a year, but it works well on that too. I prefer to do my grinding and polishing wet on concrete , going dry after i densify. Terrazzo i polish wet, alot just depends on the floor. Our current floor we started at 30 metals, then we are going to regrout the floor, then polish up to 200 and apply a sealer. I like to grind until we are showing fresh rock...thats just the way i do it. , not recommended for everyone.  This is the lowest we have ever started, normally we start at 70.

John Jackson and Stuart, what Lavina machines do you use? Do you only use them for concrete and terrazzo or do you use them on other surfaces as well?

Thanks,

We have a Lavina as well-works great on terrazzo and concrete.
Need good 220 power to run it.
Of course with any machine there are always pros and cons but Lavina makes a nice machine.
I don't use it on marble jobs very often-It isn't rigid enough
It has flexible heads which follow the contour of terrazzos and concrete floors.
We like swing machines for marble jobs

my Lavina goes up to 1400 rpm..we hone at 400 rpm, then raise it to 800 rpm once we start polishing..800 grit and above we crank it, all done wet..We are doing mostly commercial so dont have to tape. If there is a chance of damage, we hold a thin sheet of plexi glass to prevent any splashing..the lavina doesnt splash  really anyway, unless the floor is uneven. i used the 20 in lavina.

I recall from past message feeds that a lot of you liked using higher rpm machines when polishing terrazzo. How high of an rpm do you recommend?

Thanks!
