Tammy
and Mike,
In
the South Florida market you can easily hire starting tech at $12 to $13 per
hour. As with any staff you have there needs to be a way for them to grow and
earn more money.
Keep
in mind it is not always about the pay, what type of benefits are you willing to
offer? Once an staff person is hired you need to set them up on a 60 to 90
day probation period for you to evaluate their performance. After the probation
period there need to be an increase in their hourly
rate.
If
you offer any benefits it would be after the probation period. What can you
offer? Vacation pay , holiday pay, sick pay and health benefits in some cases
you can even offer a retirement program after the staff person has been with you
for over a year or two service.
Keep
in mind the long term employee has benefits to you, a long term employee keep
your business running smooth and needs to develop into a staff person that
can run jobs by themselves giving you the opportunity to spend more time selling
your services.
What
most of us that employ staff is we forget what it cost to train staff? The money
you spend on benefits will help you keep staff for a much longer time. The
longer the time the staff person stay with you the easier your job will become
as you assign the staff person additional
responsibilities.
I
started my company in 2009 ,my main tech has been with me for over 19 years and
my other tech have been with me for 2 year and I just hired another tech last
week.
Why
has my 19 year tech always follow me? I gave him opportunities and a growth plan
which included benefits.
Several
years ago I have an outside company determine what it cost to train a tech. I
did not realize the cost was so high. It cost between $6000 to 8000 to train up
a tech that can actually run jobs by themselves, and in our business that what
you want. You dont need a slurry sucker you need a tech that can run
jobs.
Without
a good tech you will find that you will never get off the truck and you will be
doing the work all the time.
Work
smart not hard invest in your tech and make your life
easier.
Hope
this help you determine what you need to pay. Keep in mind all markets are
different based upon the cost of living example Boston verse Florida

[sccpartners] Technician hourly rate
I start
rookies at $12/hr during a 30 trial period. If they make it through the 30 days,
I raise them to $14/hr and schedule them to go to school. When they get back
from school and prove that they can work efficiently and effectively on their
own, I raise them to $18per hour. I am located in Boston. John can give you
realistic pay examples for your area.
