We have used a water based adhesive remover called Lift-Off Carpet and Adhesive Remover 1920 made by Roberts.  If you need a solvent based remover I would try a carpet installation supply source.  Someone mentioned Greased Lightning.  You can get that at your local Home Depot or Lowe's, we have used it for different things and it works well.

Hi all,

I have run into a mess.  52 year old house. Client removed old cork flooring. Mastic was left. I had the concrete and mastic tested for asbestos and it is negative. We need to remove this mastic. We dry ground with 50's but it was barely cutting it.  So we grabbed some mastic stripper and saw it was helping a bit.  It ended up spreading all over and making a more sticky mess.  Does anybody have any tips on how I can remove this 50 year old mastic?
