Weve done a few of those-very popular-takes some precision machine work!
The granite is good so you neednt touch it.
We tape them with gorilla tape and tinknocker tape(the aluminum stuff) We put the aluminum tape over the gorilla tape.
It works pretty good but replace any that get loose.
We find and this varies that there may be a lot of the inserts are lower than the main floor-some will be higher and those are the ones to be careful with.
We dont go over the taped inserts but work around them-if you go over them you will raise your blood pressure because some will get pulled off and drive you nuts.
Every floor will have different spacing between the inserts ,if you have at least 17 inches you can get away with a17 inch swing machine.
Yours look less then 17". Use a 12 inch swing machine with 3-3 " diamonds starting with 220 grit and work around the inserts right to the edge and where you can not reach use a makita. Take out the frames using either 280 grit honing powder or a abrasive fiber pad agressive enough to eliminate the frames. Then run 400 grit diamonds or higher (your call) and polish using your favorite polishing compound.
On the small foyer where the stone meets carpet I would tape up the border between the granite and the marble and do the edge by hand if needed. The area where the reception areas is looks like you will have to do that by hand.
You dont want to put any scratches in the granite.

Clear packing tape over the granite so that you don't damage it with the marble diamonds and create more work for yourself. Take your time be careful and charge accordingly!

Looking for different ideas on how everybody else would refinish this Black Granite & Crema Marfil floor.
Crema is BAD and Granite is perfect.
