we have cleaned a bunch of marble walls using this blue marble cleaner from Prosoco..its really thick and you paint it on with a paint brush, should remove any normal wax , and also removes carbon.

first you have to determine what type of wax it is..If its acrylic any standard stripper should remove it..If its urethane, you will need some pretty nasty chemicals and it might not be worth takening the job.
