It could be that original grout was cracking and was replaced with urethane (flexible) grout and provided some sort of "expansion" join.

I have been asked to service a honed granite floor. The floor has what appears as thin slivers of metal strips on grout lines. Pls see attached pictures. But in many places the metal strips or some type of metal coating has diminished or disappeared. What is that is on the grout and how can I replace or paint the grout to make it look like metal?
