I agree with Stuart...looks like soapstone to me also. Just be careful you don't change the shape of the statue with sandpaper. On Thu, Jun 6, 2013 at 8:03 AM, Micah <micahgautier@gmail.com> wrote:
Would mineral oil darken those areas that much?
Micahdoes it feel soapy-looks like soapstone. You might try some light sandpaper and some mineral oil.I am not sure I would even bother with this.Of course you understand that in order to work on this you will have go to the Zimbabwe Tribal stone carving institute to be certified to work on this African soapstone. Lunch will be hunted.Just Kidding! On Wed, Jun 5, 2013 at 9:39 PM, Micah <micahgautier@gmail.com> wrote:
Partners I need some input, below are some pics of a statue a client wants repaired, I initially thought it was granite but I'm not sure, the dark (granite looking) part has some scratches but its almost like a finish, I can actually scrap it with my finger nail and make the white scratches so it seems like it has some type of topical finish on it. The statue was actually crafted by a Zimbabwe native so I have no clue what it could be, help!
