Bulletproof is just another sealer with a little twist, it is mostly water with a small percentage of alcohol and 1-5% resins-read the msds.  I guess its the name that makes it so powerful(a marketing bonanza). I haven't used it but have heard mixed reviews about it.
Seems to get recommended on so many jobs.
Our contract states we seal all surfaces. We do but we also test every surface so we know just how porous it is or isn't.
We base our sealing process(amount of sealer and applications) on the facts or knowledge of the surface we are working on.
Impregnating sealers can be effective if used on the right material and applied correctly. We get sealer removal jobs as well due to misapplied sealers.
We use many different types of sealers-miracle, aquamix, dry treat, tekon, lithofin and even our own stuff.
I think we can do a good sealing job with any sealer. Some may take longer than others and some are just more user friendly.
We try to use sealers that are hydrophobic and oleophobic as well. Sometimes we mix sealers and actually get good results.
We only use topicals on slate, saltillo, and terracotta.
We very rarely seal outside installations.

Good question. We use impregnating sealers all the time. But always feel we are running a risk with topical sealers that they will fail. Specifically we use topical sealers on concrete, terrazzo, sometimes tile cover (Aldon) on locker room tiles or special situations. Of course terra cotta. Have had problems with slate. Used to use on marble but not any more. A substantial part of our business seems to be correcting problems that sealers have caused. Recently got paid a fair amount removing stone-lok, as one example, and a horrible sealing job that eventually clouded up on some travertine, as another. So I am wondering what applications are justifiable for various sealers.
