You can also use a planetary head machine to get a flat floor. The larger diameter machine will give you a flat floor. I think using a stiff/ridgid pad driver and no flex in the diamonds like mike said is the way to go.
I might add starting with 120 metals though 400 metals may help.
Check flatness after your first cut. After metals go to 220 resin and up.
Test an area.
Down play results and over perform.
