Dr. Fred and all:

The scope of work states the following on the polishing of existing porcelain tubs which are Kohler soaking tubs:
Mildly abrade and remove calcium build-up/other films using alum oxide or other approved product

Polish inside of tub with oxalic acid base polishing compound to a slight sheen. Must meet slip resistance standards for a standard tub.

So basically they are asking for the soap scum to be removed, (easy enough), and then a little polishing. Bid due by next week so any further thought would be helpful. Again thanks in advance

I never heard of anyone using aluminum oxide to refinish tubs. Generally they are acid etched and painted with an acrylic, The only thing I can think of is that they may be using a course aluminum to rough up the surface for bonding.  Polishing grade aluminum wont even touch porcelain.

Hi all:

New one for me. Have to do a bid for a hotel with 86 rooms which have soaking tubs. The owners out east say they had a guy who refinishes them out there with aluminum oxide. Has anyone experienced this? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
