Ok make sense.., It just looked like etching and cleaning wouldn't bring back the gloss.. as a last resort we went to vortex pads and that worked. It was a call we received and the porcelain was around a pool area. It was an area of 25 sqft.

Randy,

I‘ve not seen a porcelain tile etch before. Porcelain tiles don’t contain calcium therefore should not etch.

Hey Fred:

We have used vortex pads to re-polish porcelain tiles that had etching and came out like new.

I would never try to grind porcelain tiles now, however in the next 30 day from now I may have an different answer. As I test the new Cheetah pads there has been comments that porcelain can be honed and polished.  I will be testing in the future.

But until  the testing is done I would not attempt to use diamond on the porcelain.
Sometime it’s ok to tell the customer it cannot be fixed.
To hone the job is a high risk job.

You can grind the porcelain then refinish.
I have never done it and probably wouldnt.
Porcelain is very hard on the diamonds and takes a long time to cut.
I have heard it is nightmarish.
I dont think you could fill the grooves.

Hi. I am looking at a job where porcelain tiles have been deeply scarred by a rotating machine used to take off tile mastic. These are those small round mosaic tiles set into a black matrix. The scratch patterns are such that, if this were marble, it would require metal diamonds. I was wondering if anyone has had success with filling the scarring with a white or clear epoxy or something similar. Maybe even color seal. Applied and the excess taken of with razor blades. This is assuming the scratches cannot be ground off and the tile polished. Thanks
