If you are worried about etching with acid there is a product called Stone Scrub from hard rock tool that is very effective on hard water and mineral build up. I think Stu Rosen has something similar as well.
I am doing a bid for a brick patio. Th patio had planters on it for a number of years. When they were removed their were a number of hard water stains. Does anyone have any ideas for removing them.
