Hi partners,
This job is on a yacht and it's white onyx. They said this floor was perfect for 5 years and slowly this red started to come through. It took 2 years for it to look like this. I did a sample with Iron out and got no results. I did another sample with peroxide that I will check on Monday. I had viewed some different white onyx slabs at a fabricator's shop. I noticed there was a fiber mesh backing on it and under the fiber mesh I saw this red strips running through the slab but on the back of the onyx not the face. They had to, in some areas, grind off the mesh backing so that they could epoxy the edging for there profile piece. After they grinded the mesh off it disappeared. Has any one come across this problem before? Can white onyx contain iron? If so, can the mesh trap the moisture and cause the rust? Could the epoxy they used to bond the mesh change color and bleed through? The red is coming up in veins and spots throughout also.
