But this has been going on for ten years, if not more.
And like everything else we just need to adapt
Human consumption is at an all time high and the need to save
money even higher so I think this evolution is normal.
I have a very easy technique but before I give it out let me
call a certain customer of mine.
You see many years ago (in 2002) I use to install counters as
well but I was aware of this issue and I personally requested for Belfast Nero Absolute
and not the Zimbabwe Doctored granite everyone was buying. I didn’t mind
the 65$ a foot cost , just for the material .
The material was 1 ¼ and one piece was 9 feet by 48 inches
which we had to carry and flip over the railing on a staircase to get it in. 2
hrs and a hernia later, it went in like a glove,...well after we hammered the
kitchen walls a little.
Point is, I have been sealing and stain removing since the early
90’s, the piece was heavy as sin and my customer was a lawyer who
represented top stars in the music industry, I didn’t want a problem
A week passed when the client calls me in panic – he has
oil stains everywhere, NO PROBLEM I tell him, poulticing is my specialty. Here I
go mixing the powder and oil remover , place it in 20 locations on the counter,
in all confidence, next day I have grey spots everywhere.
I not only removed the oil but the COLOR.
3 months of testing later and one 20 year warranty which I had
to personally provide, and the client accepted the doctored granite.
I cleaned it
Restained it
And sealed it.
I will make a point to call him this week and try to go see the
counter after so many years and I will share the results with you soon.
Ciao
Antonio

Last time I talked to Maurizio this was what was his direction
and I am sure he would have made some kind of mark, ALSO the issue of how much stone
that is not technically granite being marketed as granite, another huge lie in
the industry.
