Roger,

If the floor is going to  be re-grouted it can be done before or after. The advantage of doing it first if the person re-grouting the floor as he removes the old grout could scratch the stone and then your restoration normal restoration practice would remove the scratches. However if the person removing the grout scratches the floor too deep then you may need to start the restoration with a lower grit diamond therefore costing you more time on the job. if the grout is remove first there needs to be in ytour agreement that if the person removing the grout scratches the floor to where you need to use a lower grit diamond then the person or the customer will be responsible for the additional costs. If the floor is regrouted before your restoration you need at 72 hour cure time before you start restoration or you could remove a lot of grout during your honing process. The other thing to consider is how much grout is the regrout person going to remove? If they regrout over the floor and does not remove any or a small amount of grout you could remove grout as you hone. I would recommend to the person that is regouting the floor they use a laxex additive to the grout. This will make the grout bond better and cure faster.

If the floor is regrouted after the restoration make sure the customer sign off on your work, then if the per regrouting the damages the floor it up to the regrouter to pay to have it fixed.

Subject: [sccpartners] Who's 1st or Does it Matter ?

I have a large white marble floor to service. Right now it is polished, but we are restoring it to a honed finish. Someone else is re-grouting the floor. What should be done 1st, the re-grouting or the stone restoration and why?

Thanks,

Roger
