i always used a moulding trim, kind of a small version of a wonder bar...if nails are left in, there is a tool for pulling staples it has a rounded point and it curve..if you grab the nail and roll it up, it wont damage the floor much..I dont know what its called, we used them for building fence (barbed wire)

In concrete polishing we cut bolts out of concrete with bigger hand grinders and cut wheels or saws-all but your dealing with a tiny nail.
