You can get the acid in the garden section of Home Depot. Dilute the acid in a spray bottle, 1 part acid to 4 parts water. Spray onto the surface and please be careful not to walk in it. Cut your work area into 1/4's. Do one section and don't be afraid if the stone surface smokes a little. That's the acid at work. After 5-8 minutes mop the area with a neutralizer. This process eliminates the shine and you will not have picture frames. Using your honing powders or pads will soften the finish and make it even throughout.

What about a light mist of muratic acid to etch the stone. This eliminates all picture framing. Following with a neutralizer and the pads mentioned previously. The acid application is effective on counters also and honing powders or spinergy pads can produce a smooth even finish.
