We do a lot of jobs like this-what marble (hardness) are you working on and how is the lippage.
Are the grout lines sanded or unsanded-what color is the grout, darker colored sanded grout lines can be stained from honing powder and or slurry.
Those answers will dictate what techniques may be the most efficient way to complete the task.
Vortex makes a 120 grit pad and a 220 grit pad.
Anyone who uses them will tell you they can make fast work of honing.
They will help with the edges as well-cut them for a 5 or 7 inch pad driver.
Then work the edges until there isn't any luster left.
Then you can bring the floor to any level you like.
Color enhance or seal to complete.

Roger,

You can get the acid in the garden section of Home Depot. Dilute the acid in a spray bottle, 1 part acid to 4 parts water. Spray onto the surface and please be careful not to walk in it. Cut your work area into 1/4's. Do one section and don't be afraid if the stone surface smokes a little. That's the acid at work. After 5-8 minutes mop the area with a neutralizer. This process eliminates the shine and you will not have picture frames. Using your honing powders or pads will soften the finish and make it even throughout.

Do you use dilute the acid?

Guys,

What about a light mist of muratic acid to etch the stone. This eliminates all picture framing. Following with a neutralizer and the pads mentioned previously. The acid application is effective on counters also and honing powders or spinergy pads can produce a smooth even finish.

I have a job to restore a newly installed polish marble floor to a honed finish. It was grout today , Wednesday 03.04.15. When will it be safe to start honing the floor?
Also any tips on knocking down the gloss besides using diamonds and honing powder.

Thanks,

Roger
