I just repair one like this last week.  I used a small dremel bit just to open the crack deep enough that the fill would bond better. I used a polyester fill  Akemi

(or other bands ) to fill the hole I blended colors and the crack from a distance was not noticeable at all if you look down onto the fill you could find it.  The key is blending a color that will hide itself. I started with transparent and then blended some colors to make the fill look somewhat transparent.
