That is, I believe, Mercer Tile.  We have polished these on floors with NCL ceramic polish and they came out spectacularly. I attached a picture of a floor that we polished. You could test with some of that.   How delicate are the tiles?  The original treatment was boiled linseed oil.   You may want to call the Moravian Pottery and Tile Works and ask them for advice.  Here is the link:
